Although Buteau has attended several of the musician's concerts, she hasn't met him personally yet. However, that might change at the Billboard Music Awards on Thursday, which Buteau will be hosting. During a CNN interview this week, Buteau remained tight-lipped about a potential encounter with Kravitz at the show, even though he isn't nominated for any awards this year.
"I can't confirm or deny," she said with a sly smile. In a trailer released this week for her upcoming Netflix stand-up special "Michelle Buteau: A Buteau-ful Mind," Buteau shares an anecdote about her husband throwing her a party when they discovered the "American Woman" singer had followed her.
When Kravitz continued to like her posts, Buteau recounted her husband asking, "Do I gotta worry about Lenny Kravitz?" "I said, 'Yes, you do,'" she quipped, drawing laughter and applause from the audience. Buteau is a multi-talented comedian, actress, and podcast host. She is recognized for her role in the comedy "Babes" alongside Ilana Glazer, as well as the 2023 Netflix comedy series "Survival of the Thickest," which was renewed for a second season in July. Her first Netflix stand-up special, "Welcome to Buteaupia," premiered in 2020. Her upcoming special, "A Buteau-ful Mind," set to release on New Year's Eve, will make history as the first stand-up special by a female comedian recorded at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
However, before its release, Buteau is concentrating on her hosting responsibilities for the Billboard Music Awards, which she promises will be a lively celebration. "It's spontaneous, sassy, classy, and incredibly fun... Ultimately, I believe it's crucial to feel celebrated, and that's precisely what we deliver," she stated. "That's also why I enjoy hosting events like the Billboard Music Awards, because uniting people through music is essential."
Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, and Sabrina Carpenter are among the top contenders for the prestigious Top Artist award. Performers include Shaboozey, Coldplay, Jelly Roll, Linkin Park, and Tyla, among others. Whether Kravitz will make an appearance at the ceremony is uncertain, but Buteau has a message for him regardless.
"Dear Lenny," she expressed. "Thank you for all the joy and love you pour into your projects. We all sense it... and then some."
The Billboard Music Awards will be broadcast on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on FOX.
