As the year comes to a close, one of the biggest cinematic events, "Wicked," will be available to watch from the comfort of your home.
Universal Pictures announced that "Wicked" will be available for purchase or rental through major digital retailers, including Apple TV, Prime Video, YouTube, and others, starting December 31st. This home release boasts three hours of bonus content, such as deleted scenes, commentary, and a singalong version of the movie.
Pre-orders for physical copies on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD, set to release on February 4th, 2025, are also open.
Stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who play Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, joined fellow cast member Jeff Goldblum (the Wizard) in a new promo to share the news. "There is nowhere like home to watch Wicked," Erivo remarked.
Fans eager to experience Erivo's "Defying Gravity" and Grande's "Popular" on the big screen can still catch "Wicked" in theaters. The film, the first of two parts, has already grossed over $392 million domestically and $580.9 million worldwide. Part two, titled "Wicked: For Good," is slated for a theatrical release on November 21st, 2025.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film adapts the hit Broadway musical, narrating the story of how Elphaba, with her green skin, and her bubbly blonde roommate at Shiz University, Galinda, become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, from "The Wizard of Oz." The cast includes notable names like Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Michelle Yeoh.
