The decision to divert the Airbus A220-300 aircraft stemmed from engine difficulties and the presence of smoke within both the passenger cabin and cockpit.

The airline confirmed that all 74 passengers and five crew members on board Flight LX1885 were successfully evacuated after the safe landing.

Following the incident, twelve passengers and four crew members required medical attention. One crew member's condition remains unknown after being transported to a hospital by helicopter.

The aircraft has been removed from the runway, and the airline is currently investigating the source of the smoke.

"SWISS extends its sincerest apologies to all passengers for the disruption caused and expresses gratitude for their cooperation during this challenging event," the airline stated. "Our primary concern lies with the well-being of the passengers and crew members affected by this incident, particularly those currently receiving medical care.

"We are actively collaborating with relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident."
