Son Heung-min signs new deal to stay at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have activated a one-year extension clause in Son Heung-min's contract, ensuring his services until mid-2026.

This anticipated move safeguards the club's interests, preventing Son from departing without compensation at season's end or pre-agreeing to a summer transfer with a foreign club this month.

However, long-term prospects remain uncertain. Son will turn 34 by the summer of 2026, necessitating complex negotiations with the club regarding a potential partnership extension.

Chairman Daniel Levy seeks to avoid losing Son for free. Should such a scenario appear likely, he might consider entertaining offers this summer.

Appointed club captain in mid-2023, Son has achieved global stardom in North London, arguably becoming Asia's most renowned footballer.

The South Korean international joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for £22 million. His 431 appearances place him 11th on the club's all-time list, accompanied by 169 goals. Only Harry Kane, Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Smith, and Martin Chivers have surpassed his scoring record for Tottenham.
