In an interview with Famitsu, Hulst explained that the company aims to provide a diverse gaming experience by utilizing its own studios and collaborating with external developers.
“Our collection of intellectual property is a valuable resource for PlayStation,” he stated. “As we work to enhance our offerings, we are constantly evaluating opportunities to revitalize older IP and create fresh franchises.”
He added, “Our objective is to release games crafted by the world's top developers, both within PlayStation and beyond. Our close partnerships with external studios have already yielded numerous successes.”
Hulst also commended the success of Team Asobi's Astro Bot, which recently received the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards.
The co-CEO reported that Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies in its initial nine weeks. Notably, nearly 40% of these sales were attributed to players who were either new to PlayStation or had not purchased a game for the platform in two years.
“We are delighted with the positive reception from the gaming community,” Hulst commented. “The game boasts a Metacritic score of 94 and has resonated with a broad player base.”
He concluded, “It has significantly expanded our audience, attracting a larger proportion of younger players and families compared to other titles.”
