"Notch" persson hints at potential minecraft successor

Despite the immense popularity of Minecraft, there's a chance that a second installment in the franchise could be on the horizon.

Minecraft is one of the most popular game franchises worldwide. However, few know that it was created by a programmer named Markus "Notch" Persson, with the first demo version of Minecraft released in 2009.

After more than a decade, Notch recently shared on his X page that he is continuing to pursue a new project, a sequel titled Minecraft 2. This is despite the fact that Notch has already handed over creative control to Jens Bergensten, and left Mojang after Microsoft acquired the company.

Currently, the information from Notch is only conceptual. However, this decision isn't random. Notch previously created a poll for his 3.6 million followers, and received a lot of support for developing a second installment in this popular franchise.

According to initial reports, Minecraft 2 will be a traditional roguelike game, similar to titles like Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM) and NetHack. The game will also feature a first-person dungeon crawler element.

Notch acknowledges that this game may be controversial, and that there's a chance Minecraft 2 may not be as successful as the first game. However, he insists that Minecraft 2 will not simply copy the success of the first game, but will instead introduce new ideas and innovations to create a fresh experience for players.
