Newtopia premieres in February: Jisoo and Park Jeong-min face a zombie-infested world

Jisoo from Blackpink and award-winning actor Park Jeong-min are starring in the highly anticipated Korean zombie apocalypse series Newtopia, set to premiere globally on Prime Video on February 7.

The series will also debut on the Korean streaming platform Coupang Play on the same date.

Set in the midst of a zombie outbreak in Seoul, Newtopia follows the journey of a couple trying to reunite despite the chaos surrounding them. Park plays Lee Jae-yoon, a man who is fulfilling his mandatory military service, while Jisoo portrays Kang Young-joo, his girlfriend facing early career struggles. The show explores their relationship challenges and personal growth amid the outbreak.

The official synopsis highlights the couple's struggles: Jae-yoon grapples with anxiety about his future while completing his service and faces a breakup after an argument with Young-joo. Meanwhile, Young-joo, dealing with frustrations in her work life, witnesses the zombie outbreak and must adapt to survive. As the world around them descends into chaos, the couple races through the zombie-infested city to reunite.

Newtopia is written by Han Jin-won, co-writer of Parasite, alongside Jee Ho-jin, the screenwriter for A Shop for Killers. The series is directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, known for his previous collaborations with Park in Bleak Night and Time to Hunt.

This marks Jisoo's second major acting role, following her lead role in Snowdrop. The K-pop idol has also appeared in The Producer and Arthdal Chronicles. Park, acclaimed for his performances in Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet and Deliver Us From Evil, brings a wealth of acting experience to the project.

Newtopia will release weekly episodes from February 7 to March 21, streaming in over 240 territories worldwide on Prime Video. The series promises a mix of action, romance, and comedy set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse.
