According to Khanna, a mutual friend overheard Bachchan allegedly accusing him of imitating the superstar's signature style.
Khanna shared the story about an advertisement he starred in, where he applied perfume and turned heads from the ladies. The actor revealed that a friend of Bachchan's, who was present at the time, reported that the megastar remarked, "Saala copy karta hai," implying that Khanna was copying his style.
This comment left a lasting impact on Khanna, who responded to his friend with disbelief, saying, "Pagal hai tu, woh aisa bolege?" (Are you mad? Do you think he'd say this?). However, the statement lingered in Khanna's mind.
He also addressed the media speculation that Bachchan’s comment ruined his career, dismissing such claims as "nonsensical." Khanna emphasized that despite not working together, the idea that Bachchan had any influence on his career was unfounded.
Khanna made it clear that there is no ill will between him and Amitabh Bachchan. They have met several times over the years, exchanged pleasantries, but never discussed the alleged comment.
Reflecting on his career, Khanna explained that he only took on a select number of film roles and was not hindered by any external factors, including Bachchan. He clarified, "Amitabh didn't stop me from starring in Mahabharat or Shaktimaan."
