Meghan Markle's beloved dog guy passes away

Meghan Markle shared the sad news on Tuesday that her beloved beagle, Guy, has died.

The Duchess of Sussex posted a touching video tribute to her canine companion on Instagram, along with the story of how they first met.

“Back in 2015, I adopted a beagle from a rescue shelter in Canada,” she explained. “He had been in a kill shelter in Kentucky, facing imminent euthanasia. I rescued him….and we formed an unbreakable bond.” She recounted how his small size earned him the nickname “the little guy,” which inspired her to christen him “Guy.”

“And he truly was the best companion a girl could ask for,” Meghan fondly recalled. Guy was by her side through many milestones, including the majority of her lifestyle blog Tig's existence, the conclusion of her acting career on “Suits,” and her whirlwind romance and marriage to Prince Harry.

“Just before my move to the UK, he suffered a terrible accident that required multiple surgeries and a lengthy stay at the clinic,” she revealed. “Doctors initially believed he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick offered hope. Harry and I made countless late-night trips to Surrey to be with Guy during his long recovery.”

Meghan explained her decision to share the news publicly by mentioning Guy's appearance in her upcoming Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” adding, “I hope viewers will understand the depth of my grief. I think they might even fall for him a little too.”

“I've cried countless tears - the kind that make you stand in the shower, desperately hoping the water will wash away the pain, or at least mask it,” she confessed. “But the tears are there. And that’s okay.” She concluded her post with a heartfelt message to Guy.

“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy,” she wrote. “You enriched my life in ways you'll never know.”

“With Love, Meghan” premieres on Netflix on January 15.
