Marvel Rivals update addresses erroneous bans

Fans are excited for the first season of Marvel Rivals and its new heroes, but some players have been unfairly banned.

The game's community manager recently apologized on Discord, explaining that a number of players were wrongly kicked out of the game. Luckily, they've fixed the problem and restored those accounts.

The word "ban" has two meanings in Marvel Rivals. Teams can vote to ban certain characters in competitive matches, preventing them from being used. This helps avoid overuse of strong heroes or villains. These bans are temporary and only affect which characters can be played, not the player's account. Everyone can still play, they might just need to pick a different character.

The second kind of ban is when a player is completely removed from the game for bad behavior or cheating. It's these player bans, not the character bans, that the developers apologized for.

Cheating in online games is a common problem, with players using software or exploits to win unfairly. Most games have ways to catch cheaters, but these systems aren't perfect. Sometimes cheaters get away with it, and sometimes innocent players are wrongly banned.

Why Were Players Wrongly Banned?

The Marvel Rivals community manager explained that some players using "compatibility layer programs" were mistakenly flagged as cheaters. These programs help the game run on different devices, and players using them weren't cheating. However, the game's system wrongly banned their accounts. This was a serious issue, as Marvel Rivals is known for giving out 100-year bans for cheating, essentially a lifetime ban.

The Marvel Rivals team apologized sincerely, assuring players they don't ban people who play fairly. While it's not a good look for a new game to have this problem, they acted quickly to fix it. Affected players should have their accounts back, and the problem that caused the false bans has been resolved. This should prevent the same thing from happening again, so players can use compatibility programs without worry.

The developers are working hard to stop cheaters and improve their detection system. They encourage players to report any suspected cheating so they can investigate.

Any Marvel Rivals players still experiencing issues after being wrongly banned can contact support in the game or on the official Discord server.
