Marvel Rivals adds Human Torch and The Thing; developer reverses mid-season rank Reset after player backlash
NetEase Games, developer of the superhero shooter Marvel Rivals, has confirmed that Human Torch and The Thing will be the next two characters to join the roster in the second half of Season 1. The second phase of the season is slated to begin on February 21, 2025.
With the arrival of Human Torch and The Thing, Marvel Rivals will soon feature the complete Fantastic Four team. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman were previously added to the game at the start of Season 1.
While both Human Torch and The Thing have been confirmed, NetEase has yet to provide further details about the characters. The developer promises new costume rewards for all players who reach Gold rank. Additionally, balance adjustments will be implemented. Details on all of these will be announced on the game's social media channels in the near future.
Another announcement related to the mid-season update overshadowed the confirmation of Human Torch and The Thing. Initially, NetEase announced that all Marvel Rivals players would have their ranks reset mid-season, dropping by four tiers. This decision was met with strong opposition from the player community, leading the developer to reverse its decision.
Now, players will only have their ranks reset between seasons. While it was initially announced as a six-tier drop, it remains unclear whether this number will be maintained after the change.
Marvel Rivals is currently available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The second half of Season 1 will commence on February 21, 2025.
