Mandy Moore defends decision to raise funds for family impacted by wildfires

Mandy Moore stands firm in the face of online criticism after sharing a GoFundMe link to help her in-laws, Griff and Kit, whose home was destroyed in the ongoing Southern California wildfires.

Moore, known for her role in This Is Us, took to Instagram on Thursday to update her followers about the devastating loss her family has faced.

Moore’s post initially explained that her brother-in-law and sister-in-law had lost everything in the Eaton Fire, including their home and Griff’s professional music equipment, with their baby on the way in a few weeks. The GoFundMe page they set up was aiming to raise $60,000 to help them rebuild, but it has since surpassed $184,000.

However, the request for donations sparked criticism, with some social media users questioning why Moore didn’t personally fund the relief effort. In response, Moore edited her post to address the negativity, emphasizing that her family was indeed helping and explaining that the GoFundMe was started by a close friend, Matt. “Kindly F OFF,” Moore wrote, adding that no one was being forced to contribute.

In her Instagram update, Moore also revealed that her own home had been damaged in the fire. She shared images of the devastation in her neighborhood, explaining that while their house was still standing, it was not livable. Moore expressed the overwhelming loss, stating that every house on their street had been destroyed, and they had lost personal belongings, including music equipment and studios. Despite the immense tragedy, Moore remained hopeful, thanking the community for their support.

Moore's message was clear: while the circumstances were heart-wrenching, the focus should be on helping one another rebuild and heal. The fire, which has burned over 13,000 acres and remains only partially contained, is part of a larger series of wildfires ravaging Southern California.
