Kensington palace addresses controversy surrounding Kate Middleton's fashion

The Princess of Wales remains a fashion icon.

Following a report suggesting that Kate Middleton wanted to shift focus away from her clothing and onto her philanthropic work, Kensington Palace released a statement to address the speculation.

"Over the past week, I have received numerous inquiries regarding a story about The Princess of Wales's attire and how Kensington Palace disseminates information about her outfits," a palace spokesperson told E! News. "For clarification, the remarks published in the article were my own, not The Princess of Wales's."

"The reported comments should not be directly attributed to The Princess of Wales," the statement continued. "To be clear, there has been no change in our approach to sharing information about Her Royal Highness's clothing." This clarification comes after The Times published an article claiming that Kate, who has been actively involved in raising awareness about cancer, wanted to prioritize her charitable endeavors over her fashion choices.

Since her engagement to Prince William in 2010, Kate's style has been a subject of public fascination. Throughout her time as a royal, Kate, a mother of three, has consistently made headlines with her fashion choices, often opting for designs by Alexander McQueen, Emilia Wickstead, Jenny Packham, and Catherine Walker.

Although the palace has never officially commented on her fashion, designer Jenny Packham once offered insights into creating outfits for the Princess.

"It's always a collaborative process," the British designer told WWD in 2014. "You generally have an understanding of where the garment will be worn."

Kate has also used fashion to pay tribute to significant figures, such as Princess Diana, whose pearl earrings have become a staple in Kate's collection, and Queen Elizabeth, who often lent Kate tiaras like the Cartier Halo and the Cambridge Lover's Knot for state occasions.
