John Wick 5 may be too much for Keanu Reeves' aging body

Keanu Reeves is known for his relatability, and he proved it once again with his recent comments about the future of the "John Wick" franchise.

During an appearance on "CBS Mornings," the actor was asked about the possibility of a fifth film. Reeves gave a refreshingly honest answer, stating, "You can never say never — but my knees right now are saying, 'You can't do another John Wick.'" He added, "So my heart [wants to], but I don't know if my knees can do it."

The 60-year-old actor was promoting his role as the villainous Shadow in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3." The film's director, Jeff Fowler, jokingly suggested that Reeves could continue voicing Shadow for many years to come since it doesn't require physical exertion. Reeves playfully responded, "I'm free!"

The four "John Wick" films have been a massive success, earning over $1 billion worldwide. However, the fourth installment seemingly concluded with Wick sacrificing himself in a duel with his friend Caine (Donnie Yen). Instead of killing Caine, a wounded Wick chooses to eliminate the film's antagonist, Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård). Wick then appears to die on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur after seeing a vision of his deceased wife, Helen.

The ending left some fans uncertain about Wick's fate. Director Chad Stahelski revealed that an alternate ending showing Wick's survival was filmed but ultimately rejected in favor of the ambiguous conclusion. This has led to speculation about a potential fifth film.

In an interview with Redhuff, Reeves acknowledged the possibility of another film but emphasized the importance of Stahelski's involvement. He also expressed satisfaction with the sense of peace Wick seemingly finds at the end of the fourth film.

While the future of the main franchise remains uncertain, fans can anticipate seeing Reeves reprise his role as John Wick in the upcoming spin-off, "Ballerina." The film stars Ana de Armas as a young assassin and is directed by Len Wiseman.

Reeves confirmed his participation in the project, stating that he has a small role in the film, which is set between the events of "John Wick: Chapter 3" and "John Wick: Chapter 4." He expressed his enjoyment in collaborating with de Armas and Wiseman.

Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as the legendary hitman, John Wick, in the upcoming spinoff film, "Ballerina." The movie, which stars Ana de Armas as a young ballerina seeking revenge, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
