Hammer stars in new vigilante film after years of controversy

The actor will star in The Dark Knight, directed by Uwe Boll. However, this film is not connected to the iconic Batman franchise.

A new vigilante story

In The Dark Knight, Hammer plays Sanders, a vigilante who rises to fame as a social media folk hero. His actions, however, irritate the local police chief, adding to the tension in the plot. While the film shares a title with Christopher Nolan's 2008 The Dark Knight, executive producer Michael Roesch assures fans that this version is very different, with no risk of confusion with the superhero world. Roesch also mentioned the excitement surrounding the strong cast and script, which he hopes will build on the success of their previous films, First Shift and Run.

Uwe Boll's direction

The film is directed by Uwe Boll, known for his work on In the Name of the King and BloodRayne. Boll also wrote the script, and he believes that the story is timely and relevant to modern-day issues. The film’s themes center around the idea of a man becoming a social media hero and the implications of vigilantism in the digital age.

A rocky road back to acting

Hammer’s return to acting comes after a challenging period in the spotlight. In 2021, he was embroiled in controversy when accusations surfaced on social media, claiming that he sent explicit messages to women involving BDSM and cannibalism fantasies. The actor denied the allegations, calling them "bulls—." He later faced accusations of raping a woman in 2017 but denied these as well, asserting that the encounter was consensual.

L.A. police investigation and career setbacks

The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the allegations, but the L.A. County District Attorney's Office decided not to pursue charges, citing insufficient evidence. Following the scandal, Hammer was dropped from multiple projects, including Shotgun Wedding, and lost representation. However, his return to film began with a supporting role in Frontier Crucible.

Hammer’s return to public life

Despite the controversies, Hammer has kept a low profile and even launched a podcast in October, where he reflected on the scandal. In the inaugural episode, he made light of the situation, joking about the cannibalism rumors. His new role in The Dark Knight marks a potential comeback for Hammer, and the actor is eager to move forward in his career.
