In an upcoming interview with Willie Geist, the Friends star described Perry as "exceptionally intelligent, incredibly funny, and uniquely humorous." She added, "During our initial table read, Matthew's performance was unlike anything I had ever encountered before. It was completely novel, and I thought, 'Oh boy.'"
Kudrow emphasized, "Matthew was astonishingly hilarious."
For ten seasons on Friends, Kudrow shared the screen with Perry. Their characters, the eccentric Phoebe Buffay and the witty Chandler Bing, engaged in numerous memorable scenes, showcasing their distinctive humor and comedic timing. A particular fan-favorite moment from season 5 features Phoebe attempting to seduce Chandler with some "flexible" moves.
In October 2023, Perry tragically passed away at the age of 54 due to the acute effects of ketamine. Five individuals, including Perry's personal assistant and two doctors, were charged in connection with his death in August.
The main cast and crew of Friends have openly expressed their grief over his passing in the subsequent year and months. Last June, Kudrow revealed that she was rewatching the entire series in honor of Perry, something she had never done before.
She explained, "To be honest, I couldn't watch it before because it's too awkward to see yourself. But if I focus on Matthew, it becomes acceptable. It's about celebrating his humor, and that's what I want to remember about him."
Both Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston commemorated the anniversary of his death last October. Cox, whose character married Perry's on Friends, shared an Instagram post featuring fellow cast members Aniston, Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, with the caption "Missing you today and always ❤️."
Aniston's Instagram post featured photos with the late actor, simply captioned "1 year." Both actresses tagged the Matthew Perry Foundation, which aims to support those struggling with addiction by eliminating stigmas and providing education.
