Disney is reportedly interested in expanding the Indiana Jones video game franchise

Whispers of more Indiana Jones games are circulating following the recent release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Industry insider, Daniel Richtman, initially hinted at this possibility, and now Jez Corden, co-host of The Xbox Two podcast, has added fuel to the fire. Corden claims to have heard similar rumblings, suggesting Disney is keen to expand the gaming adventures of the iconic archaeologist.

Corden stated, “A Disney insider suggested that there was gonna be more Indiana Jones. I will say on my end I’ve also heard that Disney picked up the phone and wants more Indiana Jones.”

This news has sparked speculation about the future of the Wolfenstein franchise, also developed by MachineGames. While there's no official confirmation that MachineGames will helm future Indiana Jones titles, it seems a logical choice for both Disney and Xbox. The studio successfully captured the essence of the Indiana Jones films in "Great Circle," and changing developers could jeopardize the momentum of a potential sequel. Corden pointed out that MachineGames is establishing a second studio, due to open in 2025, which could allow them to work on both franchises "concurrently."

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is nestled between "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" in the timeline. This leaves the door open for a sequel set after "Last Crusade" or further adventures filling the gaps between existing films. Given the chronological distance between "Last Crusade" (1938) and "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (1957), there's ample opportunity for MachineGames and Lucasfilm to explore new territory.

For now, Indiana Jones fans must remain patient. "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" is currently available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PS5 version slated for a 2025 release. A DLC expansion, "The Order of Giants," is also in the works, promising further adventures. The future looks bright for Doctor Jones!
