Handler opened the show by acknowledging the turbulent times and thanking Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni for offering a distraction with their public legal battle over alleged sexual harassment on the set of their film, "It Ends With Us." She joked about the situation, implying the film definitely wouldn't be getting a sequel.

Handler then turned her attention to pop star Ariana Grande and her relationship with actor Ethan Slater, who played Boq in the movie "Wicked." Handler's joke about Slater being a "Munchkin" drew a mixed reaction from the audience.

Undeterred, Handler continued with a lighter jab at Grande and her "Wicked" co-star Cynthia Erivo's close relationship during the film's press tour.

Handler also praised Ralph Fiennes's ability to make even "unsexy" characters desirable, referencing his roles in "Schindler's List," "Harry Potter," and "Conclave." She playfully pleaded with him to never portray Vladimir Putin.

In the end, "Wicked" and "The Substance" were the big winners of the night, each taking home three awards. "Conclave" and "A Real Pain" secured two awards each, while "Shōgun" led the television categories with four wins.
