Real Madrid suffered a second consecutive heavy defeat against Barcelona, this time in the Spanish Super Cup, following their La Liga loss. Despite an early goal from Mbappe, Carlo Ancelotti's side conceded five goals in a devastating 22-minute spell. Barcelona cruised to victory, even with a man down for the final 30 minutes.
AS journalist Luis Nieto penned a scathing review titled "A Super Victory in the Super Cup," asserting, "Barcelona were stronger, faster, more ambitious, and more precise. They dominated from start to finish. Kounde, Raphinha, Lewandowski, and especially Yamal were outstanding."
Only Valverde, Courtois, and Mbappe escaped the criticism for Real Madrid. Nieto singled out Ancelotti and referee Gil Manzano for particular blame. "Barcelona treated the ball like a living organism, while Real Madrid relied on speed. Both plans were good in theory, but the result was clear."
AS also directly criticized referee Gil Manzano, with analyst Iturralde González claiming there should have been three red cards. Marca journalist Jose Maria Rodriguez was equally damning, stating, "Barcelona once again exposed Real Madrid's utter failure."
Mundo Deportivo's Robert Torello highlighted Barcelona's reliance on La Masia graduates, stating, "Barcelona, the superb champions, tormented Real Madrid and claimed the Spanish Super Cup."
