Babygirl director Halina Reijn reveals real-life inspiration behind Nicole Kidman's milk scene

In a recent interview with W Magazine, director Halina Reijn revealed that a scene from her new erotic thriller, "Babygirl," mirrored her own life.

The film stars Nicole Kidman as Romy, a high-powered CEO who accepts a glass of milk from a much younger intern at a bar. Reijn, 49, shared that a similar incident happened to her in her 30s with a "way, way younger" actor. "I drank it, and he just walked out," she recalled. "I thought, 'How does this guy get the courage?'"

In a recent interview, filmmaker Luise Reijn discussed the production of her latest movie, "Babygirl," highlighting the unique approach taken towards filming intimate scenes. Reijn, who co-wrote and co-produced the film, revealed that a fight coordinator was employed to carefully choreograph the intimate moments between Nicole Kidman, 57, and her younger co-star, Harris Dickinson, 28. "Just as you can't film a fight scene without a stunt coordinator," she explained, "the same principle applies to sex scenes."

Reijn emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring the actors' safety and comfort throughout the filming process. Interestingly, she observed that "the days involving intimate scenes often turn out to be the most straightforward."

Casting Dickinson proved to be a challenge, as Reijn initially worried about finding an actor who could hold his own opposite Kidman. "Once Nicole was on board, I woke up totally panicked," she admitted. However, after seeing Dickinson in "Triangle of Sadness," she knew he was the perfect fit.

Addressing the age gap between the two leads, Reijn challenged societal norms. "If we see a movie where the male actor is the same age as the female actor, we find that odd. Which is insane," she stated. Kidman echoed this sentiment in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, expressing her appreciation for the film's portrayal of female sexuality. "It was really beautiful to be seen in this way," she said.

"Babygirl," which also stars Antonio Banderas, is currently playing in theaters.
