A Variety of Side Quests to Enrich the Experience

When questioned about the content of side quests, Dumont outlined three distinct categories: "target boards or bandits," "relationship-driven," and those "hidden behind a few meditative mechanics."

The side quests hidden behind meditative mechanics in Assassin's Creed Shadows will allow players to "experience the past" of the two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. At the game's outset, players will be unfamiliar with these characters, but through these flashback sequences, they will gain a deeper understanding of their motivations and backgrounds.

The "target boards or bandits" side quests in Assassin's Creed Shadows will be familiar to series veterans. Players will hunt down targets across the world, each with unique abilities and values. This iteration promises the added intrigue of hunting ninja and samurai.

The relationship-driven side quests, on the other hand, will focus on building bonds with various characters, recruiting them, and exploring romantic options.

This structure suggests a blend of traditional Assassin's Creed gameplay with elements that encourage player choice and character development, offering a potentially richer and more engaging experience than simply eliminating targets. The "meditative" quests, in particular, promise a novel approach to character backstory, integrating it directly into gameplay.
