Alice Bell, ex-wife of Al Roker, dies at 77 after illness battle
Today show weatherman Al Roker is grieving the passing of his first wife, Alice Bell. The two were married for ten years and adopted a daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, in 1987.
Courtney announced the news of her mother's death on Instagram, sharing that Alice was 77 years old. "She was my mother, my heart," Courtney wrote. "And the most loving grandmother to Sky. I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always."
Courtney's post included several photos of her mother, including some with Courtney and her daughter, Sky. In some of the pictures, Alice appeared to be on oxygen support.
Neither Courtney nor Al has shared details about Alice's cause of death. Al was absent from the Feb. 11 Today broadcast.
Alice largely remained out of the public eye during her life. Al has been married to his current wife, Deborah Roberts, since 1995, and they have two children together.
Al has previously spoken about the importance of family, saying, "And no matter what happens, these are always your children." He was also clearly excited about becoming a grandfather to Sky, promising to "be the best grandpa ever" and "spoil this kid."
