Alexander-Arnold's masterclass leads Liverpool to easy win over Accrington

Following a disappointing draw against Manchester United and a defeat to Tottenham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Liverpool entered the FA Cup third-round tie against Accrington Stanley. Despite facing a League Two opponent, manager Arne Slot opted to rotate his squad to keep his key players fresh.

Accrington Stanley, currently 19th in League Two, came into the match with a nothing-to-lose attitude. However, the gulf in class was undeniable as they faced Liverpool at the Anfield fortress, where the Reds had lost only once all season.

The match began with Liverpool dominating possession. In the 12th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold unleashed a fierce shot from the edge of the box, but Accrington goalkeeper Billy Crellin made a superb save. However, Liverpool's dominance soon paid off in the 29th minute. Darwin Nunez provided a delightful assist for Diogo Jota, who calmly finished to open the scoring.

Before the end of the first half, Liverpool doubled their lead through Alexander-Arnold. A slick passing move involving him and Dominik Szoboszlai culminated in the England defender curling a superb shot into the top corner, giving Liverpool a 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, Liverpool made a number of changes. Federico Chiesa was introduced and quickly made an impact. In the 76th minute, Jayden Danns reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, firing a powerful shot into the roof of the net to make it 3-0.

Liverpool didn't stop there. In the 90th minute, Chiesa capped off an impressive performance with a stunning long-range strike. The ball cannoned off the post and into the net, sealing a 4-0 victory for the Reds.

Despite some notable efforts, particularly Joshua Woods' shot that rattled the crossbar in the 57th minute, Accrington Stanley were unable to breach Liverpool's solid defense.

With this victory, Liverpool not only boosted their confidence after recent setbacks but also demonstrated their focus and ambition to compete for silverware this season.
