The actor’s home, which he shared with his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, was completely destroyed in the devastating blaze.
The 47-year-old actor visited the ruins of his Malibu property on Jan. 9, sharing his emotional reaction during an interview with CBS News. “Oh man,” he said while surveying the damage. “Toast.” Fighting back tears, Milo described the scene as "heavy," reflecting on the memories tied to the home.
“You start to think about all the moments, the rooms, and the little details,” Milo shared. “Then you look at your neighbors’ homes, and it just breaks your heart even more.”
Before the fire, Milo and Jarah had prepared a nursery for their unborn child, making the loss even more profound. Milo recounted watching the fire overtake his home via security cameras, a moment that solidified the reality of the tragedy. “There’s this moment of shock where you realize, ‘This is really happening,’” he explained. “At some point, we just turned the cameras off. There was no use in watching anymore. We accepted the loss.”
Milo also drew parallels between his personal experience and the storyline of his This Is Us character, Jack Pearson, who died following a house fire. He described the situation as “life imitating art” in the most tragic way. Milo isn’t the only one raising awareness about the wildfire’s impact. His This Is Us co-star Mandy Moore shared her heartbreak after the Eaton Fire damaged her neighborhood near Pasadena.
“I’m devastated and gutted,” Mandy wrote on Instagram on Jan. 8, sharing video footage of the destruction. “Grateful that my family and pets made it out safely last night before it was too late. Endless thanks to friends who offered us shelter and brought clothes and blankets.”
The wildfires have left many in the community grappling with unimaginable losses, but the resilience and support shown by neighbors and friends continue to shine through.
