"A Simple Favor 2" production delay unrelated to Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, says director

Director Paul Feig has dismissed online rumors suggesting that the release of "A Simple Favor 2" has been delayed due to conflicts between stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

Feig, known for directing comedies like "Bridesmaids," responded to a social media post claiming that Amazon had shelved the film indefinitely. The post cited Lively's alleged refusal to promote the movie due to her ongoing legal dispute with actor Justin Baldoni, and escalating tensions with co-star Anna Kendrick.

The 62-year-old director categorically denied these rumors. "This is complete nonsense. I'm sorry," Feig tweeted on January 10th. "The film is finished and will be released soon. Don't believe everything you read on social media these days."

Feig also addressed concerns about the lack of a release date, despite the film wrapping up production in April 2024. He explained that post-production, which includes editing, scoring, special effects, and sound mixing, typically takes more than six months to complete.

"Our post-production schedule always aimed for a mid-January completion," Feig clarified. "Movies aren't released immediately after filming because studios spend the preceding year determining the optimal release date."

He assured fans that the sequel is planned for a spring/summer release this year. "That's the standard process for film releases. I hope this clarifies things."

Feig also expressed his enthusiasm for the film. "The movie is fantastic, and Blake and Anna deliver incredible performances," he shared. "I'm eager for everyone to see it. Stay tuned for more updates. 'Simple Favor 2' is coming soon!"

The rumors surrounding "A Simple Favor 2" coincide with Lively's legal battle with her "It Ends With Us" co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. Last month, Lively filed a legal complaint against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign against her. Baldoni has denied these allegations, and his lawyer has indicated their intention to countersue.
